Our Story

For decades, the shoes we wear have been slowly changing the shape of our feet, and we think that's backwards. Shoes should be designed around the shape of our feet, so that's exactly what we set out to do.

ICARUS Footwear was founded in Arizona, USA in 2021 by a shoe enthusiast who was tired of sacrificing comfort for style. We set out to create a sleek design, shaped around our custom shoe last (think plastic mannikin for shoes) to accommodate your toes. Our shoes provide all-day comfort, promote healthy foot function, give you a barefoot feel, and above all, let you express your personality. 

Our company is named after the Greek myth of Icarus. His father built him a pair of wings from feathers and wax, but warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun. Icarus took off immediately and soared through the sky. Ignoring his father's warning, Icarus began to fly high and climbed up towards the sun. He got so close that the sun's heat melted the wax holding his wings together and Icarus fell from the sky.

Most people criticize Icarus for being reckless; they say he should have played it safe, avoiding a dangerous situation. We decide to focus on Icarus choosing to take a bold risk, to set out to achieve something no one else had ever done. Icarus may have failed in his task, but he did so inside the arena, striving valiantly to do the deed, devoting himself to a worthy cause. Many people live their entire lives without taking any big risks, because they're afraid of failing - cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. In a world where taking personal and professional risks is increasingly discouraged and to play it safe instead, we believe you should be more like Icarus: have courage, be bold, take a risk, dare to enter the arena.
